Meeting: Encounter with GS and Neighbouring Landowner Regarding Access Request

Encounter with GS and Neighbouring Landowner Regarding Access Request
Monday, 4th August 2025

After our meeting with the Divisional Secretary (DS) earlier today, we met GS Sivaruben along with the neighbouring landowner who had repeatedly requested access from her land to the main road through our property—a request we have consistently declined. She informed us that she intended to escalate the matter by asking the DS to review her case.

We had a brief discussion during which she showed us a plan dated March 2025, indicating a proposed passageway from her land to the main road via the edge of our land. We questioned the credibility of this plan, noting that when she purchased the land in 2021, there was no such plan or provision for access.

We explained that we had a survey plan conducted when we bought our land, which showed no path or right of way, nor did any of the previous deeds for that property include such a statement. Legally, we have no obligation to grant access or allow neighbouring landowners to cross our land.

Furthermore, we have fenced our land to protect our crops from goats, cows, and other animals. We clarified that her land access is via another route at the back of her property, which, while longer, is the established path.

We informed her that she was free to bring the matter to the authorities but made it clear that we would not change our position, which we believe is legally sound.

Summary: Met GS and neighbouring landowner regarding access request through our land. Access denied on legal and practical grounds, reaffirming no obligation to grant passage.
