Visit: Pradeshiya Sabha Vaddukoddai Meeting with Revenue Officer – 6th Visit for Assessment Tax

I attended the Pradeshiya Sabha Vaddukoddai Office today to continue the process of obtaining an assessment tax number for my land. I arrived at 9:20 AM and met with Revenue Officer Karthika, only to be told minutes later that she had a meeting at 9:30 AM and that I should instead hand my paperwork to her colleague. This was extremely frustrating — once again, no continuity with the person who actually knows my case, forcing me to re-explain everything from the beginning.

This was my fifth visit since June 2025, and the experience is becoming unbearable. At every visit, I am told something different. The requirements and explanations keep changing, and the process feels like a moving target. Today, I was informed that even after my paperwork is logged into the system, it must then go to the Valuation Office, but only after the OIC prepares a report. Only then, if all goes smoothly, will the land be registered in my name and an assessment tax number allocated — a process that will take another month.

This was the first time in five visits that anyone had mentioned the involvement of the Valuation Office or this lengthy additional step. Why was such crucial information withheld until now? It is unreasonable and unacceptable that each visit reveals yet another hidden requirement. The lack of transparency and consistency has wasted my time and left me completely in the dark about the correct procedure from the start.

Despite my frustration, I handed over 700 rupees today for the inspection of the paperwork and for logging it into the system. I have been told the OIC must now prepare a report before sending everything to the Valuation Office. I plan to follow up by Thursday, 7th August 2025 (as Friday is a Poya day) to confirm whether this has actually been done. From experience, I feel that unless I keep chasing this myself, there will be no urgency whatsoever in moving the process forward at the government offices.

Summary:

  • 6th visit since June 2025.

  • Told different information yet again.

  • First mention of Valuation Office and OIC report step.

  • Paid Rs. 700 for inspection and logging.

  • Will follow up on Thursday, 7th August 2025.

  • Strong sense that without constant follow-up, no urgency will be given to this case.
