Water Resources Board Visit – Salli KaaduThursday, 28th August 2025
We visited the Water Resources Board today to discuss the ongoing water shortage issue at Salli Kaadu, where the current well water supply was insufficient to irrigate all the coconut trees across the land. To prevent the 4-year-old trees from dying, it was determined that at least two tube wells at different sites on the land would be necessary.
The officer we met listened carefully to our requirements and, after consulting with his supervisor, advised that we fill in a formal application form. The form would need to be signed by both the GS and DS to confirm that there is a genuine need for the tube wells. Additionally, a copy of the IC of the landowner would be required to complete the application. Once submitted, the Water Resources Board would review the application, prepare a report, and potentially conduct a site visit before deciding whether permission for drilling would be granted.
The officer recommended submitting one application initially, noting that the entire process would take approximately 20 working days (around 4 weeks). The estimated cost for the application process was LKR 26,000.
We confirmed that we would complete the necessary steps, including providing the landowner’s IC, submit the form, and then return to follow up on the process.
