Glasses Donation to Chankanai District Hospital
Friday 5th September 2025 - 9am
We visited Chankanai District Hospital together with Lion Uthayasurian Anna, Lion Indra Acca, Lion Nanthan Anna, Lion Thiruchenthuran, and Lion Anita.
Representing the Lions Club of Vaddukoddai, we officially handed over a consignment of reading glasses to the hospital, intended for distribution to those in need of support with their vision, particularly for reading.
We were warmly received by Dr. Senthuran and Dr. Sasitharan, who accepted the donation on behalf of the hospital. The occasion was joined by nurses from the department, and together we gathered in the hospital’s conference room to mark the handover.
During our visit Dr.Sasitharan informed us that although the Ophthalmology Department is well-equipped, one important instrument—a Retinoscope—was currently unusable due to a depleted battery. The replacement would cost LKR 40,000. In response, Lion Ravisangar agreed to donate the required amount through the Lions Club of Vaddukoddai, on the condition that the equipment could be made operational immediately for the benefit of patients.
This initiative highlights our ongoing commitment to supporting the community’s health and well-being. By providing access to something as simple yet vital as reading glasses, and by stepping in to restore critical medical equipment, we hope to make a meaningful difference in the daily lives of those who rely on the hospital for care.
