District 306 D12 Lions Clubs came together to actively participate in World Environment Clean-Up Day, demonstrating their commitment to environmental protection and community service. The initiative focused on collecting plastic bottles, bags, and other litter along a designated route that started at the Jaffna Library and concluded at the Jaffna Town Post Office. The clean-up began early at 6.30 a.m. and continued until 9 a.m., ensuring that key streets in the city were cleared of waste.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from a wide range of community members, including Scouts, local school students, and representatives from the Navy, Army, and Police, fostering a strong spirit of collaboration. Seven members from the Lions Club of Vaddukoddai actively joined the effort, working alongside these groups to emphasize the importance of civic responsibility and environmental stewardship.
Throughout the morning, volunteers not only collected and removed litter but also engaged with the public to raise awareness about reducing plastic use and maintaining clean surroundings. This collective effort underscored the Lions Clubs’ dedication to improving community life while inspiring civic pride. The event successfully combined service, education, and environmental action, leaving a lasting impact on participants and residents alike.
