Donation: Vali West Cultural Day – Decorators Craftsmanship Appreciation and Encouragement

Honouring Traditional Craft at Vali West Cultural Day

At the Vali West Cultural Day, organised by the DS Chankanai Office in collaboration with the Cultural Council, we were deeply moved by the dedication and skill of the decorators who prepared the event canopy. Using only natural products and traditional methods, they created an atmosphere that beautifully reflected the spirit of our culture and heritage. Their craftsmanship not only enhanced the event but also reminded us of the importance of preserving such traditional art forms.

This type of work, once widely practiced in our communities, is now becoming rare. It represents more than decoration — it is an art that carries with it stories, techniques, and values passed down through generations. Sadly, many of these practices are fading as modern alternatives take over, which makes it even more important to preserve and promote them.

Recognising the value of their contribution, we took the opportunity to honour the decorators publicly during the event. We wanted them to know that their efforts are deeply appreciated, not just for the beauty they brought to the festival, but for the cultural heritage they are helping to keep alive.

To further support this cause, we also donated funds to help the decorators continue their work. By doing so, we hope to encourage them and inspire others to learn and carry forward these traditional skills. This small gesture reflects our belief that cultural preservation is as important as community service, and both go hand in hand in strengthening our society.

Vali West Cultural Day was more than a celebration of music, dance, and tradition. It was also a reminder of the artisans and craftspeople who silently sustain our cultural identity. Honouring and supporting them ensures that these practices are not lost but instead passed on to future generations with pride.
