Vali West Cultural Day – Dinner Sponsorship
Friday, 22nd August 2025

GS Sivaroopan called in the morning requesting help in sponsoring the provision of dinner for the Special Guests and organizers of the Vali West Cultural Day event for the sum of 35,000 LKR. Ravi said he would personally be happy to help but requested that it be taken under the banner of the Lions Club of Vaddukoddai. Sivaroopan confirmed this was not a problem, and Ravi then sought approval from the Club President, who gave his consent.

With the club now sponsoring the dinner, members of the Lions Club of Vaddukoddai were invited to attend the event. Lion Vijeandran, Lion Thiruchenthuran, and Lion Ravisangar were the only members able to attend on such short notice. Others, including the Secretary and Uthayasurian Anna, sent messages regretfully explaining they could not attend due to prior engagements.

The cultural festival, jointly organized by the Valikamam West Divisional Secretariat and the Cultural Council, was held under the chairmanship of Divisional Secretary Mrs. Kavitha Uthayakumar. Guests were ceremonially brought from the Aralli North Murugamoorthy Temple to the venue with traditional cultural dances.

The Chairman of the Vali West Pradeshiya Sabha, S. Jayanthan, was the special guest, while Mrs. V. Sukunalini (Senior Cultural Officer, Jaffna District Secretariat), N. Sivanandaraja (Principal of Araly Hindu College), and sculptor T. Vijayasiri were guests of honour. The Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan, was also present as a guest of honour.

The Governor addressed the audience, highlighting the importance of cultural festivals as valuable platforms for artists, especially young talents. He emphasized that culture and fundamental values must be preserved and passed on to the next generation.

The active participation and support of the villagers during the procession and the event were particularly noteworthy, reflecting strong community involvement.

The program continued with a series of cultural performances by local artists, showcasing traditional music, dance, and drama. Speeches were delivered by the DS and other dignitaries, reinforcing the significance of preserving culture and encouraging youth participation. The event concluded with the sponsored dinner provided by the Lions Club of Vaddukoddai, which was well received by all guests and participants.
