Meeting: Vaddukoddai Police Station Visit – Cow Inquiry

Vaddukoddai Police Station Visit – Cow Inquiry
Friday, 22nd August 2025

We went to Vaddukoddai Police Station in the evening based on information provided by the ADO that the station had a cow. Since we were looking to increase our herd, we wanted to speak to them to see if we could purchase it.

The OIC asked another officer who spoke Tamil to translate into Sinhala for him. We explained that we wished to buy the cow. The cows on our farm are not for culling or milk production but simply to graze on the land naturally and live a good life. For us, the urine and cow pats are natural fertilizers for the land, which is what we value.

The OIC explained that he could not sell the cow as it was government property and registered at their station. He said he would see if he could get a court order to hand over the cow to us, understanding that we were not keeping cows to run a business. He would come back to us in the future if he was successful.

Summary:

  • Visited Vaddukoddai Police Station to inquire about purchasing a cow for the farm.

  • Explained that farm cows are for natural grazing and fertilization, not business.

  • OIC could not sell the cow but may seek a court order for possible handover.

  • Awaiting further update from the OIC.
