World Entrepreneurship Days and Industrial Exhibition 2025 – Vavuniya
Tuesday, 26th August 2025
We left home at 5.00 a.m. to travel to Vavuniya to attend the World Entrepreneurship Days and Industrial Exhibition 2025. This two-day flagship event concluded on 26th August 2025 and was held at the University of Vavuniya premises, starting at 9.00 a.m.
The event was hosted by The University Business Linkage Cell (UBL), in collaboration with the Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management (ESBM) students of the University of Vavuniya. It was organized in partnership with government departments, industry stakeholders, and NGOs, bringing together a wide network of collaborators to celebrate and promote entrepreneurship.
The exhibition aimed to:
-
Promote innovation and creative thinking
-
Showcase entrepreneurial talent across diverse sectors
-
Strengthen linkages between academia, industry, and the community
Highlights of the event included:
-
Over 200 stalls featuring innovative and unique products and services from entrepreneurs
-
School student showcases, where young innovators presented their creative ideas and products
-
Public engagement opportunities, making the event open to the wider community to foster collaboration and support for entrepreneurship
-
Collaboration with government departments, industry stakeholders, investors, exporters, and academia
During the exhibition, we primarily visited the textile, food, agriculture, and innovation areas. We purchased products to support the small businesses and spent much of our time in the innovation section engaging with the students and discussing their designs and concepts. We were particularly impressed by the Year 10 students who had produced a tourist information board, a robot capable of sorting rubbish into recyclable piles, and a student who had designed an innovative accounting app.
The students also mentioned that they had been selected to participate in a competition being held at St John's College on Thursday, 28th August 2025 with their designs. We informed them that we would attend the competition if possible to show support for their efforts.
We shared our contact details with the students and requested that they obtain parental permission to explore possible collaboration on small projects. The aim is to further enhance their studies and provide support, especially for some of the boys from less privileged backgrounds, helping them apply their skills practically and creatively.
We left the event at around 12.00 noon after a tiring but thoroughly enjoyable morning.
