Coconut Plant Donation Strengthens Community Livelihoods in GS Divisions 170 and 171
On Monday, 22nd September 2025, the Lions Club of Vaddukoddai carried out another meaningful community initiative by donating more than 60 coconut plants to low-income families in GS Divisions 170 and 171. Each family received two plants, provided with the vision of ensuring long-term household sustainability. Coconut trees are a valuable resource, offering food, nutrition, and opportunities for income generation once matured, and the donation is expected to create lasting benefits for the recipients and their communities.
The distribution took place from 5.30 p.m. to 6.45 p.m. and was attended by seven Lions members, GS Sivaroopan, and a representative from the Divisional Secretariat. Together, the officials and Lions jointly handed over the plants to beneficiaries, reinforcing the importance of collaboration between civic authorities and service organisations.
During the event, several recipients shared the difficulties they face in their daily lives, ranging from economic hardship to limited resources. In response, the Lions Club of Vaddukoddai committed to undertaking two additional community projects within these divisions, which will be planned and coordinated by GS Sivaroopan.
This donation forms part of a wider Lions initiative in the region, where 500 coconut plants will be distributed across 15 GS divisions in the coming weeks, underlining the Club’s dedication to both immediate relief and long-term empowerment of families.
