President Lion T. Thiruchenthuran of the Lions Club of Vaddukoddai, together with Lion T Uthayasurian, Lion Ravishankar and Lion Anita, took part in the Elders and Children’s Day celebrations held at Illavalai. The event was graced by the Chairman of the Vali East Pradeshiya Sabha and several distinguished guests, lending significance and dignity to what became a truly memorable community occasion.

The programme commenced at 3.30 p.m. with a warm and traditional welcome extended to all the invited guests. The ceremonial garlanding and the symbolic lighting of the lamps set the tone for an afternoon filled with gratitude, joy, and togetherness. The presence of Lion T. Thiruchenthuran and his team reflected the Lions Club’s dedication to standing alongside the community during such meaningful events.

The celebration served as a reminder of the importance of honoring senior citizens, who have given so much to society, while also encouraging and uplifting the younger generation. Following our visit to Akkiya Sanga Saiva Vidyasalai on 30th September 2025, the school Principal submitted a formal request to the President of the Lions Club of Vaddukoddai regarding essential improvements needed in the school kitchen. Recognizing the importance of providing a safe and functional environment for food preparation, the Club acted promptly, arranging for the contractor to visit the site on Friday, 3rd October 2025, with all the required materials for the installation of a suspended ceiling.

Work commenced early that morning, with the contractor and team carefully beginning the process of fitting and securing the ceiling structure. This improvement is designed to create a cleaner, safer, and more practical environment for food preparation, benefiting both the staff and students who rely on the kitchen facilities daily.

During a follow-up visit, the progress was observed firsthand. The ceiling panels were being painted and fitted into place, ensuring a high-quality finish. Photographs were taken to document this stage of the project, serving as a record of the tangible impact of the Lions Club’s community service. This initiative reflects the Club’s ongoing commitment to enhancing local school facilities and supporting the well-being of students and staff

Inspiring the Next Generation: Lions Celebrate Navaratri and Children’s Day

On behalf of the Lions Club of Vaddukoddai, Lions Thiruchenthuran and Ravishankar attended and appreciated a specially organized Navaratri event at the Kali Temple in Kaddupulam, which also commemorated Children’s Day. The event brought together students, teachers, and members of the local community to celebrate both cultural heritage and the joy of learning. Students from Aranary School performed a series of traditional dances, demonstrating their talent, creativity, and understanding of their rich cultural traditions.

President Lion Thiruchenthuran praised the children for their performances and presented them with educational gifts, encouraging their continued learning and creativity. Lion Ravishankar recognized the dedication and hard work of the teachers, highlighting their vital role in guiding the students and preserving cultural practices for future generations.

As always, the Lions are committed to actively participating in and deeply integrating with communities of all ages, ensuring that their presence contributes meaningfully to social and cultural initiatives. Today, the Lions Club International District 306 D12  organized a meaningful Elders Day celebration at Kaddaipirai Irupalai, creating a warm and welcoming space for senior citizens from the local community to come together. The event was filled with joy, laughter, and a spirit of togetherness, reminding everyone of the value and wisdom our elders bring to society.

As a gesture of love and appreciation, the attendees were presented with thoughtful gifts, including bedsheets and food parcels, which were received with gratitude. Lion Umapathy was among the generous contributors who helped make this occasion possible through his support.

The Lions Club of Vaddukoddai also extended their active participation, with several of its members joining in the program to share in the celebrations. Their presence reinforced the commitment of Lions to recognize and honor the invaluable role that elders play in our lives.

This special day was more than just a celebration—it was a heartfelt reminder of the responsibility we all share in caring for and respecting the elderly. It emphasized the importance of community support, compassion, and unity, making it a truly memorable occasion for everyone involved.

International Elders Day

The Vali West Society of Elderly Association organized a special Senior Citizens Day event at Nihara Gnana Vairavar Kovil in Chankanai, generously sponsored by Lion Ravishankar of the Lions Club of Vaddukoddai. Senior citizens from various GS Divisions across Chankanai and surrounding areas were invited to join, creating a wonderful gathering of community and camaraderie.

The event was filled with fun and enjoyment, featuring lively games of musical chairs that had everyone laughing and participating enthusiastically. Attendees were also treated to a selection of short eats, adding to the festive atmosphere. To show appreciation and respect for the elderly, thoughtful gifts of umbrellas and shawls were distributed, bringing smiles to all.

Club members Lion Ravishankar, Lion Anita, and Lion Nanthakumaran attended to represent the Lions Club of Vaddukoddai. Lion Nanthakumaran delivered a heartfelt speech, and the DS also spoke highly of the Club’s contributions to the community.

It was truly a memorable and heartwarming occasion, celebrating senior citizens and acknowledging their invaluable contributions. The Lions Club of Vaddukoddai is proud to support such events that foster joy, unity, and care for the elderly.

Lion T. Uthayasurian, Lion Ravisangar, and Lion Anita met with the Principal of J/Chulipuram Aikiya Sanga Saiva Vidyasalai to review an important new project. The Principal explained that the school kitchen currently has only a roof with no ceiling, which creates unsafe and unhygienic conditions for preparing daily meals for the children. To resolve this issue, the school has requested financial assistance from the Lions Club of Vaddukoddai, with the support of the Greenland Foundation, to construct a suspended ceiling.

The Lions members inspected the situation and agreed that a ceiling is urgently needed to ensure the safety and cleanliness of the cooking area. They assured the Principal that the Club, with its partners, is prepared to provide the necessary help. The Lions also emphasised the importance of commencing the project quickly, given the health and welfare of the students depend on having a safe kitchen.

Lion T. Uthayasurian further advised the Principal to submit a formal written request so the matter could be officially presented and considered. The meeting reflected the commitment of the Lions Club of Vaddukoddai to respond to practical community needs and to ensure that schools are equipped to provide for the well-being of their children. This project, once completed, will directly benefit the students by improving the standards of hygiene, safety, and comfort in their daily meals.

This Night School, a remarkable initiative running successfully for over two decades, has created valuable opportunities for children who, due to various challenges, are unable to receive adequate academic support during the day. By attending classes in the evening, these students are able to continue their studies, strengthen their knowledge, and improve their future prospects.

The Lions Club of Vaddukoddai continued its mission of service by supporting the local Night School with the donation of brand-new lights and wall fans. This Night School is an initiative run by GS Sivaroopan, who has been dedicated to helping students for more than 20 years. The request was made to improve the facilities available for students who dedicate themselves to learning during evening hours after their daily routines. Recognising the importance of a safe and comfortable environment for study, the Club promptly took action.

This initiative was generously sponsored by Lion Ravisangar of Greenland Foundation whose support made it possible to address the immediate need. The new lights have brightened the classrooms, ensuring students can read and write with ease, while the wall fans have provided much-needed ventilation and comfort during the long sessions. These improvements have already made a visible difference in creating a better learning atmosphere, encouraging students to remain focused and motivated in their studies.

The Lions Club of Vaddukoddai once again reached out to support education by helping a young student in need. The boy’s bicycle, which he relied on to travel a long distance to school each day, had broken down, and his family did not have the means to repair it. Recognising the importance of this support, the GS brought the matter to our attention. Greenland Foundation with Lions Club kindly stepped forward to sponsor the full repair cost.

The bicycle was repaired and restored to perfect working condition, and it was officially handed back to the student. This simple yet meaningful gesture not only eased the boy’s daily travel but also encouraged him to continue his studies with renewed confidence. The family expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Lions Club for stepping in at the right time.

The individuals were nominated by GS Raj Khanna, who ensured that the beneficiaries were both deserving and willing to cultivate the plants with care.
